"An hour a day of walking can help prevent childhood obesity"
Scott Gee, MD

Student safety is the number one priority for school administrators. And with only 15 percent of students walking or riding their bikes to school, that means the majority of kids are car riders. All those cars in one area at certain times of the day create the potential for a dangerous environment for our kids. Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is here to help by providing guidance on everything from working with local communities to placing bike racks in the proper location.

Please visit our Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up chapter that helps readers identify problems associated with the drop off and pick up of students at school, and identify engineering, enforcement, education and encouragement solutions to these problems.
